Tidest is a free, open-source macOS window manager with per-window switching (Option + Tab), 3×3 grid snapping (Option + Q), a multi-window layout canvas (Option + Shift + Q), and a slide-out Window Dock (Option + W). Enable Keep for a docked item to reopen closed Finder folders, macOS Terminal directories, and Safari or Chrome tabs. ### Does Tidest switch apps or windows? Windows. Every window of the same app can be chosen on its own, and minimized windows come right back. ### Is a docked item still there if I close the window? Yes, if you pin it to enable Keep. Finder reopens the last saved folder path. Unpinned items are removed when their window closes. ### Which windows can reopen where I left off? Finder reopens the folder, Terminal reopens the current directory, and Safari or Chrome restore your tabs and their order. Other apps reopen the app itself. Running commands, SSH sessions, and in-page state aren’t restored. ### Why does Tidest need permissions? Accessibility is required to move and switch windows. Screen Recording is only used for previews — you can skip it and use app icons instead. When keeping Finder or other windows, macOS may also ask for Automation access. ### Can every window fit any size? Most can. Some apps set minimum or maximum window sizes, and Tidest gets as close as possible. Fill screen uses the available space without entering macOS full-screen mode. ## Pages - [Home](https://tidest.app/en/): product overview with interactive demos - [Features](https://tidest.app/en/features/): dedicated pages for each of the four window tools - [Switch Windows](https://tidest.app/en/features/window-switcher/): A Mac window switcher that shows every window - [Snap Window](https://tidest.app/en/features/snap-window/): Snap any Mac window into place with a number key - [Arrange Windows](https://tidest.app/en/features/arrange-windows/): Arrange several Mac windows at once - [Dock Windows](https://tidest.app/en/features/window-dock/): Keep your go-to Mac windows at the edge of the screen - [Articles & comparisons](https://tidest.app/en/guides/): Practical guides to switching individual windows, snapping and arranging layouts, reopening closed workspaces, and choosing a window manager on macOS. - [Free Mac window managers compared: Rectangle, AltTab, Loop, AeroSpace, Magnet, Moom, and Tidest](https://tidest.app/en/guides/free-mac-window-managers/): A side-by-side comparison of Mac window tools — Tidest, Rectangle, AltTab, Loop, Moom, Magnet, AeroSpace, yabai, and macOS tiling — across window switching, snapping, multi-window layouts, and edge docking. - [How to switch individual windows on Mac like Windows Alt + Tab](https://tidest.app/en/guides/alt-tab-on-mac/): Why Command + Tab on macOS misses individual windows and minimized windows, and how to switch between every window with Option + Tab. - [Mac split screen and window snapping shortcuts: from two halves to multi-window layouts](https://tidest.app/en/guides/split-screen-shortcuts-mac/): How to snap a Mac window into halves, corners, or full screen without entering macOS full-screen spaces, and how to arrange three or more windows at once. - [How to reopen closed Finder folders, Terminal directories, and browser tabs on Mac](https://tidest.app/en/guides/reopen-closed-finder-windows-mac/): Dock your most-used windows at the edge of your Mac screen with Option + W, and reopen the exact folder path, Terminal directory, or browser tab set after closing them. - [Download](https://tidest.app/en/download/): installer, system requirements, and setup steps - [Guide](https://tidest.app/en/help/): how every feature works, permissions, and support - [Release notes](https://tidest.app/en/releases/): changes in each public release - [Privacy](https://tidest.app/en/privacy/): what data stays local and what analytics collect ## Other languages - [简体中文](https://tidest.app/zh-hans/) - [繁體中文](https://tidest.app/zh-hant/) - [日本語](https://tidest.app/ja/) - [한국어](https://tidest.app/ko/) ## Optional - [Full text for AI assistants](https://tidest.app/llms-full.txt): the complete English guide and release notes - [Terms](https://tidest.app/en/terms/)
