Release notes

See what changes in each public release of Tidest.

2.0.7

A clearer installer with larger icons and a hand-drawn arrow.

  • Larger Tidest and Applications icons are arranged side by side.
  • A hand-drawn arrow shows where to drag Tidest, with a crisp background on Retina displays.

2.0.5

Adds animated instructions, consistent spacing in Settings, and a fix for Window Dock status after reopening windows.

  • Open “How to use” from the menu bar for animated examples of window switching, quick layout, and Window Dock, using your current shortcuts without requiring permissions.
  • Pause, resume, replay, drag the progress bar, or choose a step. With Reduce Motion enabled, inspect each step manually.
  • Simplifies headings in window settings and gives all three sections consistent padding.
  • Fixes the kept-window status in Window Dock after reopening Finder and Terminal windows.

2.0.4

Smoother Window Dock transitions and improved update checks in About.

  • Adds a Liquid Glass view switcher with clearer selection on macOS 26 and later.
  • Window thumbnails smoothly shrink into app icons and expand back, with a softer handoff between images.
  • Quick changes of direction stay smooth and preserve your reading position. Animations follow the system Reduce Motion setting.
  • About checks for updates automatically, supports retries and download confirmation, and no longer requires Accessibility permission.

2.0.3

Improves window previews and Window Dock, and fixes extra Finder windows when reopening saved windows.

  • Window previews refresh more smoothly, with fewer abrupt image changes.
  • Tiled previews no longer show the selected window title twice.
  • The Closed status in Window Dock is aligned more clearly, and cards for open windows are more compact.
  • Reopening a kept Finder window no longer creates an extra default window.

2.0.2

Improves Window Dock across displays and fixes duplicate Terminal windows when reopening saved windows.

  • Window Dock: move the pointer to the chosen edge of any display to bring the dock there, even while it is still open on another display.
  • Terminal: reopening a kept Terminal window no longer creates an extra default window.
  • Quick Layout: press Space while the nine-position panel is open to fill the available screen area.

2.0.1

This is a major refactor. The author decided to focus on the three features they use most every day: Window switching, Quick Layout, and Window Dock.

  • Window switching: the default shortcut is Option + Tab. Hold Option and press Tab to select an individual window, then release Option to switch. Multiple windows from the same app appear separately.
  • Quick Layout: point at a window and press Option + Q by default to open the nine-position panel. Click a position or press 1–9 to use half, quarter, or the full available screen area.
  • Window Dock: press Option + W by default to start picking up a window. Click the window to pick it up, then click the dock at the screen edge to place it. Enable the Keep pin to reopen a closed Finder window at its saved folder path.
  • These are the current default shortcuts. All three can be changed in Settings → Windows; shortcuts in older release notes apply to those versions.

1.0.3

Tidest is now free, with all window and Scene features available.

  • Removed trial limits, activation, and license settings. All features are free to use after installation.
  • Added anonymous usage analytics to count daily active installations. Window titles, window contents, file paths, and Scene configurations are not uploaded. See the Privacy notice for details.

1.0.2

Combines 1.0.1 and 1.0.2: customizable shortcuts and settings improvements.

  • The default Quick Layout shortcut is now ⌃⇧A. You can change it, restore the default, and see registration errors in Settings → Shortcuts.
  • Improved keyboard focus in the Quick Layout panel and app focus handling when it closes, making number keys 1–9 easier to use.
  • Settings no longer adds a Beta label to the version number.

1.0.0

Quick Layout and improved window controls.

  • Point to a window and press ⌃⌥L to open the nine-position panel. Click a position or press 1–9 to place the window.
  • Window cards now include a minimize action, and applying a Scene shows progress feedback.

beta 0.1.6

Clearer feedback when switching windows.

  • A breathing dot shows progress when you click a window card to bring it to the front.
  • The indicator stays visible briefly even when the action finishes quickly, so it is easier to notice.
  • The dot stays still when Reduce Motion is enabled in macOS.

beta 0.1.5

Fewer unnecessary window list refreshes when switching apps.

  • Switching to an open app updates window visibility while preserving previews that have not changed.
  • Successfully bringing a window to the front no longer reloads the entire window list.
  • If a window cannot be brought to the front, only its app is refreshed and the specific error remains visible.

beta 0.1.3 – 0.1.4

Updates to scenes and window management.

  • Settings now shows the beta version.
  • Applying a scene arranges existing windows, skips unavailable windows, and continues with the remaining ones.
  • Closing a Finder window selects and switches to an adjacent window in the list.
  • Settings is now in the sidebar, with a dedicated Quit button at the top of the window panel.

0.1.2

An updated default appearance and a universal Mac installer.

  • The standard glass appearance is now the default when no appearance preference has been saved.
  • The Developer ID-signed and Apple-notarized installer supports Apple silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 14 or later.
